10 Week Intern Program for Family History Workers
NEW Nov 1, 2005 Contributed by Alice Neff, director of the Midvale Union Fort Multi Stake FHC
This is a program used by the Fort Union Midvale FHC. It is an intern program where they have
10 weeks worth of lessons one day a week for 2 1/2 hours. They include scriptures, PAF, Internet,
research and commercial programs we use in the FHC in every lesson as we strive to teach a
comprehensive, well rounded approach to Family History. The students are called and set apart by the
bishops of the 7 stakes they serve to participate. At the end of the course some are invited to join
the FHC staff, some go back to serve as ward consultants, some go on to do their own work better.

Data Entry Standards for PAF Files
With the use of computers for Family History, it is necessary to have some standardization of entry methods. Without standardization, it is difficult for files to accurately be displayed in or interface with the online IGI and other databases. Correction of incorrectly entered places in temple submissions causes needless extra work for those maintaining the online IGI, etc. and to manually make corrections so that information will display correctly. B. Nielson of Upland, California has graciously shared his standards for data entry as a guide for correct entry of information. This file is in WORD format.

Why Mormons Do Genealogy presentation
*NEW Aug 9, 2005*
David Wardell of the McLean Virginia FHC has created this presentation. David writes: "Several years ago our Stake had a short film/video professionally produced explaining why members of the Church operate FHCs and have an interest in genealogy. It's not without faults but nevertheless well-done, religiously-focused, and answers the question succinctly. It differs from materials the Church has produced since for FHCs in that it is live action and targets the religious questions in a different way. It dates well, although if you look closely you'll start to wonder where they found the antique computers (they're probably still running in a FHC somewhere). Recently I transferred the original to a video file that plays nicely over the average LAN on average PCs."
