Editing Place Names with FamilyInsightNamed "Best Standardizer" in the 2009 FamilySearch Software Awards. FamilyInsight's Place Editor lets you see all of the places in your file, compares them with the place authority on new.familysearch.org, and offers suggestions for those places that may be misspelled or have missing parts. Correcting a place in the Place Editor corrects all instances of that place in your file at the same time. |
Edit Places mode
It is easy to correct misspellings and other place name errors with FamilyInsight's Edit Places Mode. Places are listed alphabetically by place name. You may either in order by smallest jurisdiction or largest. A number will be listed next to the place indicating how many instances of that place name are in your file. When a place is highlighted, all the records with that place name will be listed in the individual name list. If you want to change all of the instances of a place name, you can correct the name in the list.
This can be done in several ways.
- 1. Edit place names by typing directly into the place name list.
- 2. Drag incorrect names into correct names in the name list using drag and drop.
- 3. Editing individual record by clicking on a place and name and editing the event in the details.
- 4. Edit un recognized place names using the suggestions given in the place suggestion window.
